You asked to receive fewer claims statements, and we listened.
A clear understanding of your claims is vital—especially when it comes to making informed choices about your health care. But our members have informed us that they receive too many claims statements in the mail—that it creates information overload, and it's also not very good for the environment.
We heard these concerns, and that's why we've revamped our Explanation of Benefits (EOB) delivery schedule in order to make it more streamlined (and environmentally friendly, too).
Previously, we've been sending out EOBs on a daily basis. But when we took a look actual claims activity, we found that 23 percent of our members have no claims activity in a given year, and 35 percent have no claims activity in any quarter. For a member with one or more claims in a given month, the average number of claims is approximately three. In short, there aren't a lot of claims, but there are a lot of EOBs!
Based on this information, and in an effort to adopt a green approach to our EOB mailing process, we'll be generating a summary of claims information, or EOB statement, twice a month. You'd be amazed at how quickly this small change will make a big impact. Moving to a summary statement (as opposed to daily EOBs) will result in a 65 percent reduction in claims documents delivered to members with claims in a given month.
If you want to have even more positive effects on the environment, you can choose to receive paperless EOBs and get email alerts about your claim statements through the myRegence.com Message Center. We're working hard to make sure that this option is available to everyone, but not all of our members can opt for it yet. To find out if you have the option to go paperless, visit your Email Preferences page.
