We’re committed to improving health outcomes for members and helping employers and employees contain costs while ensuring providers follow the standard of care for both medical and behavioral care. To support this commitment, beginning Sept. 1, 2024, we will require pre-authorization for applied behavioral analysis (ABA) therapy services for members under age 18.
This requirement is designed to ensure that members are receiving the most appropriate care. It may also help some members save money on out-of-pocket costs. Providers were notified of this change in June. It does not affect existing pre-authorizations.
After pre-authorization is received, members will still have access to the same ABA therapy providers they do today.
